Can you convert a copier to use different brands of 5052ci Toner

I know or thought I read somewhere you can convert a Kyocera TASKalfa 5052ci to use different brands of toners such as Kyocera, Copystar, etc. Customer has a machine that they have purchased toner for it but it shows toner empty. Did not get the toner from us but was wondering if can tell it to use Kyocera brand toner? Have not seen the toner they got.

Can this be changed? Don't see how. Just asking.

    short answer: NO
System do not show "toner empty", it will show "unknown toner installed" in case of usage from some 3rd party toners.
1."Toner empty" message is coming up if no toner would forwarded to dv unit,
e.g. toner motor turned 100 times and voltage on toner sensor doesn`t change.
    or
    2. on RFID chip from cartridge 0% remaining.
