[Misc] Ecosys P6130cdn "Cassette Not Loaded"

    Hi All,

I have a Ecosys (Kyocera) P6130cdn in the field that is notorious for "Cassette Not Loaded" error messages. I've discovered the issue, however I haven't come up with a good fix for this one. The "knuckles" on the Paper Size Dial on the left side of the cassette, which determines the paper size in the tray, are not manipulating the three switches far in enough to trigger the paper lift motor, therefore the printer thinks the cassette is not loaded.

Does anyone have an idea of a good fix for this issue?

    Thank you!

The paper size microswitches can become intermittent. I have occasionally had success disassembling the switch assembly, and bending the contacts a little. Keep in mind that the switch parts are microscopic, and extraordinarily easy to lose tiny pieces.

You can install a new switch assembly too. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Had this problem occur quite a bit myself, and too find myself having the change the switches often across all models that use this process.

Doesn't help when you have some users slam their trays shut often! :'D

For a temporary fix, you can set the paper size dial to "Custom" and then manually set the paper size in system menu. However I'm sure eventually the other microswitches will wear out as well and the switch assembly will need replaced.

What did you end up doing to fix this machine?

I ordered, and installed a new size switch assembly. P6130 cassette switch assy.PNGP6130 size switch PN.PNG
The switch assembly can be found in the manual, under Electrical Components 1, Fig. 13. It's a bit of a task getting to the switch, and re-assembly, but it worked. I had the option of installing an identical spare printer, and making the repair in-house. That way, you don't have parts scattered everywhere, and possibly having customers hoping you know what you're doing.

As an aside, I had a call for a printer that was jamming. Not a major issue, just a sticky solenoid. But that solenoid was buried behind other assemblies and they didn't have much space.

I told the woman I would have to take it back to the shop for repair and she asked, " Is it that bad?"

I said " No but the part is kind of buried in the machine and that makes it a seven cuss word repair so we do those in the shop".

                    Hi
I have had this problem many times, I usually spray with a plastic friendly switch cleaner, and blow it out with spray can of air, it usually works.
