4002i ETC.. Not reading proper paper size

    Hi All

    Long time no see.....

Has anybody run into problems with some of the 2 series not properly reading the paper size in the cassettes. ?

I know this should be a simple fix , but I have replaced the rear switch assembly and I still get the wrong size.. Swapped cassette and it may work for a short time..Funny thing , the cassette looks prefect and sometimes will work in another copier..

    Cheers..

Is it not reading from the tray the way the paper is oriented on the display?
or if you put some thing in the feeder and it reads that is doesn't have the correct size?

The ones on the 02 series we've repaired have been the arm lever under the cassette 90% of the time on our repairs.
they are super flimsy. And each tray 1 and 2 are different arms.

If its the feeder id clean the contact board on the side guides and put some new conductive grease and jiggle them.

      Hi

Not reading the correct size in the tray..for example will read folio when it's letter..
I know this will be something stupid that I am overlooking...It's a simple set up..
Very familiar with the arm, replaced many of them .

Thanks for the tip about the feeder..especially the jiggle part :-) I almost make it a practice to clean the contacts at every call ..

      Thanks

Sounds like the service bulletin 2ND-0085 that dealt with size misdetection.

The tray gets a little flexible and doesn't hit the size detection sensors right every time.

Check the service NAVI for details.

It's a problem with that flimsy plastic arm under the tray: the one that gets pushed down when you slide the front/rear guides out to 11 inches (figure 9 item 16 302ND09201 in the parts manual). There is a part that can be glued onto the arm under the tray, 302L794230, to resolve the issue. I usually just take it the arm off, put a small screwdriver through the hole, and give it a good twist so the guide pushes it down further. It's a risk of snapping it, but hasn't happened yet. If you look at a tray from a 4003i you will see how they permanently resolved the issue: basically, the arm isn't moving over far enough to hit the switch.

He said he checked the arm and was pretty familiar with them.
            I second Darrys tech bulletin.

Although the op said it does it on different trays?
I would think the problem would follow the tray if it was in need of the bulletin mod

              Hi

              Sorry for not responding sooner..

You folks were spot on ..it was the width size arm , wasn't making good contact with switch.

I couldn't check the bulletin, the 3 week update didn't allow me

So Thanks to all that responded..

I have success installing the cassette mod per 2ND-0085, part number 302L794230.

If you're using internet explorer, turn your security level down in the settings.

Or use edge in internet explorer mode.
