    FS1020D spots

Anybody come across regularly spaced spots down one side of the printed sheet?

The smudged spots, along the paper edge further from the control buttons, about 2mm across, occur at 47mm intervals, suggesting the culprit is a roller of 15mm diameter.

I have cleaned everything the operation manual suggests, with no significant improvement.

I have used Kensington 3-in-1 Laser/Fax/Photocopier cleaning sheets (apparently no longer available to purchase), with no significant improvement.

While the spots may be overlooked for internal prints, they mar any documents going outside. I am reluctant to bin the printer, so would welcome any suggestions for a cure.

    Black points.

Prints the service status page and if continue the stains out, verify the unit image or fuser rollers.

    Bye!

Remove the PU (Process Unit) and have a look at the mag roller. This is tucked right in the middle of the PU next to the drum. You may need a torch to see it properly. If I'm right, then the marks will appear as clumps of toner on the mag roller. There are two things you can do about this.

      1. Pull the PU appart and clean the mag roller with a dry cloth. Clean the toner off and keep turning the mag roller and cleaning until you have been over it twice.

      2. Buy a new PU which is almost the cost of the printer itself.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

I have to agree with the Owl and Randula7.

If this were a Canon it would be called "mottling". It only affects monocomponent toner systems. It's easy to get careless and touch the developing cylinder with your finger. The toner sticks in the finger oil making a pattern of lumps on the roller. High humidity also contributes to this problem.

The best solution is to dry-wipe the developing cylinder in the affected areas. If it re-occurs this could mean that the developing unit bearings are getting sloppy. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

This is a standard issue problem with these printers. Kyocera even posted a bulletin about it.

Thought they would have fixed this issue after they had all the problems with the DV-60's that failed in the FS-1800 family.

              Thanks

Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions. Have not had sufficient access time with the printer to implement them, but shall do so at earliest opportunity.

                Resolved

At last got round to implementing suggestions. It is possible, with care, to clean the offending roller through the small gap between the drum and the casing to save dismantling the unit. It helps to hold the drum cover open with matchsticks or similar in the slots either side of the casing.

Many thanks to all who offered suggestions.

                Troika.
