    SMB Scan

Yesterday I delivered a 3252ci and set up SMB on 3 PC's. All tested good. A couple of hours later they called and said the copier was saying memory full...on the copier. I go there this morning and confirmed the error message. It wouldn't scan a single page.

All I did to correct the problem was power off and back on. After that I scanned about 50-pages with no problem. I've seen this problem before on a 3551ci. It only happens about once or twice per year. Not that often.

    Anyone see this before? Thanks.

When the machine comes out of sleep mode it doesn't see the PCs. It may be a problem with the network settings, verify that there is something in DNS, usually the gateway serves as an internal name server unless they have a larger network. You can also minimize the sleep settings for power saving which may (or may not) help.

Judging by the lack of responses, I'm assuming this isn't a common problem.

I had already increased the sleep time before the memory full message appeared. The machine has the latest firmware.

The error has not appeared again since I power cycled the machine.

I'm gonna let it ride for now.

Maybe a static IP instead of hostname for the smb path may help finding the PC's after sleep mode? just throwing an idea

            Re: SMB Scan

Had this problem just a couple of weeks ago at one of our law offices. It was only two pcs having the problem, one of them being one of the main partners.

I happen to know that everyone at that office is hard wired. Also, all the pcs are Windows 10 or 11. I always check to make sure that SMB is turned on in Windows Features when having a scan SMB problem.

What I did (I don't like doing this, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do) was to give the pcs in question a hard IP. Then put the IP address in the host name on the copier and scan SMB worked just fine. When I give a device a hard IP, I usually do it in the 200 range hoping there won't be a conflict with the dynamic range. To this date I have never had a problem doing that. Still don't like doing this with customers pcs.

And yeah I know, this is something their IT people should be handling. But this customer has been with us through four machines (four leases, no questions asked, just bring the next machine at the end of the lease) and their IT guy is incredibly lazy and likes to blame stuff on us. So I just handle it. Also, law firms can sue you in their spear time so one must be a little careful.

I did notice one thing on both pcs I gave a hard IP. The wifi was turned on and logged onto the the network. I checked on a couple of other pcs an the wifi was turned off. Even though the two pcs I gave a hard IP were working, I went on ahead and turned the wifi off on those boxed.

This may or may not have bearing on your problem, but there ya go.

Often, put a static IP resolve the problem... but you have to configure a lease on the box, otherwise if the computer change of network, you lose your address...

Just like you said-- Only happens a couple times a year to a few customers. One of which is a 5052ci at a school and they use scan to email. Power cycle the copier and they're good to go for months before it comes back.
