does this mean we're talking dried electrolytes? (like old tv sets, if you remember those )

these machines are getting old now, but it's still great machines and we have lots of them out. interesting to see if this is a 'trend'

I am still reliving dried electrolytic capacitors as I mess with old radios. This problem seems to be in a triac or scr that turns on one of the fuser lamps. The one with the hot part of the filament in the middle is not coming on or is coming on intermittantly, thus the long warmup and print rubbing off in the center. Took us a long time to figure this out. I'd like to know if that is your problem too.

hehe. i mess around with old cd-players, first gen. philips/philips clones from 1982-85. they are great! indestructable laser, but caps gets killed by heat. 14 bit rules!

anyway: haven't had any trouble with power supply yet, and don't want it either. triacs, transistors etc. usually work or don't, that's why i quickly suspected old and dried caps. if/when this starts showing up, i hope someone has managed to pin it down to the faulty components. don't really have a surplus of 80-100 power pcbs around, and i can't imagine they will be cheap to order from kyocera.
