    Copystar 2550

A new problem that I am seeking answers to. I have Copystar 2550 that I am working on. It was leaving wide white lines in the middle of the copy. I changed out the drum unit assembly thinking that with a new drum, blade, main charger etc. the problem would resolve. It did for about a week. Now the white line is back and moving around.
The service manual suggested several fixes. The first was to change out the drum unit assembly. The next thing they suggest is the developer is dirty or the mag is dirty and to change out the developer unit. My poor customer is still upset about the high cost of the drum unit assembly. The manual also suggest that the copier might be unlevel..and we checked that..no problem there. The next suggestion is the shading plate could be dirty or require an adustment. Have not done that yet.
On this forum someone suggested the temp of the fuser could be turned down 10 degrees to resolve the problem..no luck with that.
Sooooooo I am taking suggestions if anyone has any.

Do the white lines only show up when the document feeder is used? Do they come out ok on the glass? There might be dust on the bottom of the scanner glass. Also, can you print out test patterns without a problem? Try sim 89 one dot pattern. Have you pulled out the dv assy to look at it. one other thing to look at is the laser. mayby there's dust bunnies blocking the laser. Just some thoughts.

Actually I think the dv needs to be changed. They are not buying their toner from me and if they got some bad toner it would explain alot of the issues they are having. Plus they have an IT tech employed there who wants to just use me for tech advice and I am not able to see with my own eyes the condition of the unit. ...I really like repairing copiers, it is the customers that often need the adjustment..lol.

Since replacing the drum unit took care of the problem for about a week, maybe there is a ventillation issue. Make sure the ozone filters are not clogged and the fans turn properly. If they are full of dirt and gunk, perhaps they are not turning properly.

It sounds like a high voltage problem to me. Main charge or grid, transfer roller. Does it happen with prints and copies. In west Texas could be lack of humidity.

if you've ruled out scanning problems through making internal prints,ya might have some kind of foreign matter in your dv unit. especially if it is a definate line.. if it's just blotchy here there and everywhere ya might have a dirty transfer roller or maybe even moisture in paper.. but, like ya said, hard to tell if customer won't let ya near it..

              dv module

those white lines that move around are often due to junk being in the developing module...that model (as are most these days), is a toner recycler...sending unused toner from the cleaning unit back to the dv module to be reused. Sometimes, paper dust, debris, etc, travels with this toner and ends up in the dv. Sometimes it is augered to the doctor blade and it effects cq at that area. It will fall away, go away, and move around....sometimes, it will even end up back on the copy.......a cheap solution is to take a business card and stick it between the doctor blade and the mag roller and move it side to side, scraping the blade.........hopefully, this will work itself out through use...otherwise, try to vacuum out the module and run the setup sim for a new module (i think 130?), this machine is monocomponent....meaning toner is all you should need....if that doesn't work try a new dv mod.........note....all this is assuming that the scanner has been eliminated as a variable, the transfer roller is good and the sawtooth is clean, and the drum and main charge unit are indeed good

Just to clarify, these models are identical to KM2550? If so they don't recycle toner, instead dispose of toner in the waste bottle. That being said everything else is accurate.
If you want to go a step further as a last resort (I would have a spare on hand), mark, measure whatever you need to do get the position of the
h-cut/doctor blade. Remove it and clean under the blade getting rid of any build up of toner. Dumping the toner and cleaning the mag roller would also help get rid of any other crap in the unit. Then run U130 to refill.
I will stress this should be looked on as a last resort, best done with a replacement unit on standby, but if you've tried everything else....
                Goodluck.
The force will be with you always.

                  2550

yeah yeah....thats right, it is like a km2550, so no recycler.....i would not remove the doc blade unless absolutely necessary....try the business card method first

                    CS 2550 headache!

Using maint code "089" only "grayscale" and "256-Level" will print. The other three choices give blanks. New Drum, New developer, New fuser and mew transfer roller. Also can't clear drum count....it gives me a count but can't clear it........Am I blind in one eye and can't see out the other??

The drum counter is supposed to reset automatically when you replace the drum unit.

How big is the white line? Is it more of a wide white streak? Is it from lead to trail or front to rear? Occurs on copy and print mode?

Not sure if you're having the same problem that I was having, but I had some 1650s and 2050s that would have a white faded line in the middle of the copies. It would show up only when copying, not printing. I cleaned the hell out of the optics. Take a long Q-tip and clean all the mirrors, exposure lamp and the ISU. You'd be surprised how much dust dwells in there.

                            CS 2550 headache!

Thanks to all of you who jumped in with advice and hints! It turns out that the replacement drum was defective. Operating under the assumption that the "new" parts were good really threw a "monkey-wrench" into the mess.

Waiting for the new (other) drum to arrive which will hopefully get the CS2550 up and off the bench!

                            Thanks to all of you!
