I have a km 5050 that can fax out to all numbers except 1-866 numbers. Is there a setting to change or a phone company problem?
Km 5050 can't fax 1-866 numbers

I can't imagine that being a machine issue - I'm sure it's a phone system problem.
The best test would be to diconnect the fax line from the machine, and plug in an el cheapo telephone, then dial a an 866 fax number, and see if you get through. I really doubt that you will.
The customer most likely either has:
a). Long distance numbers blocked (including toll free)
or
b). No long distance carrier assigned to that line.
It also may be possible that you need to dial another number or numbers before dialing the 866 number.“I think you should treat good friends like a fine wine. That’s why I keep mine locked up in the basement.” - Tim Hawkins -
Like Ken said. I've only seen two such situations:
1) PBx blocked all 1-8xx phone numbers.
2) No long distance carrier assigned. As a test you can pre-select AT&T by dialling 1010288-1-866-xxx-xxxx. For Pioneer (I think they're called something else now) it's 1010368-1-866-xxx-xxxx.If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Tried hooking up a stand alone phone and dialing the 866 number and it went through ok. I even put a canon copier that they had in the same office with the fax board installed and they weren't using it as a fax,on the fax line and it works fine. The only thing I can find is maybe Transmission restrictions in the Fax System operation guide (Advanced) I will try that and post results.Comment

Do you have to dial a number for an outside line, i.e. 9-1-800-555-1212? Depending on the PBx, it may take a few second for the outside line to connect. If it only takes 1 second to connect the -1-80 can be ignored. The resulting phone number dialled is 9-0-555-1212 which can't connect. The answer for this problem is to insert anywhere from one to three (2) second pauses after the 9, to allow the connection to be made before the dialling continues. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

There is not a number to dial for a outside line. This 866 number goes to a network which scans the first page(looks at a bar code )and directs it to the right person. Sounds like a setting on the KM 5050 since I have no problems with the Canon I hooked up.Comment
