    KM-3035

Good one here. This machine works perfectly through the feeder and on internal prints, but, when using the glass, 3/4 off the page is black in the scan direction. Like it picks up the first 3 inches of the page and then the lamp goes out, which it doesn't, that is just the best way I know to describe it. The scanner scans smoothly and there is nothing blocking the light. This has me baffled. The only thing I found: There is a pcb behind the lamp on the lamp assembly. this board has a long white ribbon cable running back to a board in the back. Of course this cable is looped to be able to move with the scanner. There is a black holder that is missing that holds the cable (about 4 inches from the Pcb, when it makes it's first downward turn. the point where it starts going black is the same point where the ribbon falls up under the lamp assembly, due to the scanner moving. All I can figure is this cable has bent so much over time that a wire is broken internally in the cable. Although the lamp doesn't go out at that point, I'm thinking it is affecting some component in the lamp assy, but has anyone ever seen this happen. that is the best I can describe it......

I'll agree with your "cable" diagnosis.

You hit all the high points I wanted to see:
Internal prints & DP prints look fine.
3/4 of the page black (lamp on at leading edge).

It's clearly an optical issue. It is most likely the lamp cable. Second choice, lamp. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

THANKS! Anyone know the number for that cable and a source. I don't order alot of KM Unique parts. I have the SM, but I don't think I have the PM.

        2FG27100 flat cable
        2AV12100 xenon lamp
        2AV28080 inverter PWB

Note: be extra careful handling the ribbon cable at the connectors. It is very easy to damage one of the copper foil contacts and make the new cable useless. Most of the ribbon cables I have charged were the result of mis-handling when changing something else. =^..^=
