    km 5050 program loading

Hi all,has anybody had any issues updating the firmware on the km5050.I have updated many machines without any problems but on this occasion the update finished with only 30% of the cpu engine updated. The screen said cpu engine error and no change to the rest of the units. Now the machine will not boot up.When I power on the machine it goes through its regular motions but doesnt change from program loading on the display.I have tried to use another usb stick and downloaded the latest firmware but nothing works. If the machine is left on it will eventually give a -CFB 31 error.Anybody got any tips.

I'd start by replacing the engine DIMM, then immediately flashing the firmware on power up. Second choice is the engine PWB with firmware.

I've only had maybe four occasions when the firmware did not take or crashed. For Kyocera its relatively rare. On the first occasion it turned out to be a op panel DIMM + firmware on a Stratos. Second & third were the main DIMM + firmware on a Falcon III. The fourth was caused by a power outage during firmware upgrade (you should have seen the look on my face). The last required a Code DIMM + engine firmware, then combined firmware, then upgrade to current firmware. The last involved three days and a lot of hair pulling. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I have had this problem once, sometimes the machine does not read the firmware from the usb stick, because of op panel dimm, so I have taken to using a CF card and flashing the machine that way. works everytime . with regard to the cf b31 error, there is a bulletin telling you to change the dimms. something to do with the gold plating being too thin on the original dimms and causing contact problems. the dimms were foc in the exchange program but not sure if still foc.

I now have the same problem with a CS 520i that displays 'Program Loading' and complete full cycle to ready. I reseated the Dimm and plan to return tomorrow to Update Firmware (near end of day). This account Server is located in India and exchanges huge faxes daily (overloading the memory).. the building is a 'built out' old factory with power that fluctuate.. Any suggestions would help with the other 14 (520i) onsite... Oh! Tech Support suggested I 'Flash Card' the machine instead of Thumb Drive'..

Yes, the CS-520i does still have a compact flash port on the back, which is the preferred method of loading firmware in my opinion. Note: the CF card must be formatted on the machine (or any FalconIII), then the extracted firmware files placed on the root of the CF card. =^..^=

You could try updating just the Engine firmware. On the 250Ci & 500Ci this works if you have an HVT error. You will have to cut and paste some files from the firmware update file. The files that you will need to copy are:
              DL_ENGN.2GR
              ENGNBLD.BIN
              P_LOGO.BMP
              P_UPDATE.BMP
              P_zImage.kmpanel

You will need to paste these files onto the root directory of a usb mem stick. The update procedure will start as normal, but
only update the engine firmware. This does work, I just did it to one of our machines to test it out. Should work with a CF card as well however I have not tried it out.

There's a little access door in the back cover, middle height. You don't have to take off the whole back cover. =^..^=

I loaded Firmware on machine (520i, formatted 'CF' card Fat not Fat32) and the Firmware ran 'complete' but 'Program Loading' still remains frozen on display.Im bald so no air to pull out... Any other pointers (i've reseated all Cards on board and assured proper contact))... Is it possible I have a bad Memory card or Dimm?

My next guess would be the CODE DIMM (302KS94040) on the main PWB, then firmware.

If no progress then the Main PWB (302KS94010) with DIMM you just ordered. Don't forget to transfer the Eeprom @YC14, memory, fax backup and anything else that is plugged into the old main PWB. Re-load firmware.

If no progress then the Engine PWB (302KS94060). Don't forget to transfer the Eeprom @U3, and anything else that is plugged into the old engine PWB. Re-load firmware.

Let us know how it goes.

I replaced the 'Dimm' and CF the machine firmware. The machine is still displaying 'Program Loading'. I will try the 'Main PWB' and transfer the Eprom to new PWB and re-load firmware via CF in rear. However i did CF (3) other machines and the process was successful..... This account uses Paper Cut on all their Copystars..... go figure
                        Will keep y'all posted.... Thanks
