    Taskalfa 420i Duplex

I have searched online (including these forums) but cant seem to find an answer to my question. So forgive me if it has been answered and I missed it.

We have a Taskalfa 420i with a finishing unit. Most of the users use iMacs running OS X 10.6.3. Everyone can print to the printer, but no one can print duplex. The option just isnt there in printer features. Other options are there (mostly for finishing...stapling, collating, etc), but nothing for duplex printing. Setting the option in the default layout menu also doesnt work.

Using a generic PS driver doesnt work either (I thought it did, but that was on the previous unit before we got this one).

Windows users can print duplex just fine, Mac users do not seem to have the ability.

Also, I know the duplex works, since I can copy duplex items just fine.

I think I remember seeing somewhere that Kyocera doesnt support duplex printing on a Mac, which I can not understand at all. I cant find that anywhere now though, and dont remember where I read/saw it.

I personally print a lot of 200+ page documents and I need it duplex to save paper. And I dont want to tie up our color copier/printer either (it prints duplex just fine).

Also, I checked and I am using the correct driver I believe...its the one from the Kyocera website for that model.

Any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Chris

How to enable the duplex unit on Mac OS X?
Printer Setup utility, select the printer then Show Info. Click drop down arrow, select Installable Options. Enable Duplex

I took this off the Kyocera service site.
    Hope that helps !

Thanks tmaged, however there is no printer setup utility in OS X 10.6. I believe they moved it to the Printers & Fax pane in System Preferences in Leopard (10.5). In the driver section I can enable paper feeders, job separators, mailboxes, punch units, folding units, finishers, hard drives, etc, but there is not option for duplex. Other printers have that as a selectable option here. It is like Kyocera forgot to add it into the mac drivers for this MFP (and it appears on the 520i as well...I tried that driver just to see if the options changed).

Do you happen to have a link to that on the Kyocera service site? I might be able to dig around in there and maybe find what I am looking for.

      Thanks again,
      Chris

make sure you have install the correct PPD for that machine.Version 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
From your browser's File menu, select Print... .
To the right of the "Printer:" pull-down menu, you will see a button with an arrowhead. If the arrow is pointed down, click it to reveal more detailed settings for your printer.

Click the pull-down menu that either says Copies & Pages or has the name of the program you're using (e.g., Microsoft Word, Safari). Select Layout.

          Choose one of the following:

To print two pages per sheet: Next to "Pages per Sheet:", select 2.
To print double-sided (i.e., one page on each side, front and back): Next to "Two Sided:", select Long-Edge Binding or Short Edge Binding, depending on the orientation you want for your pages. When you select one of these options, the illustration may show you how the pages will be oriented. If you are printing two pages per sheet, choosing Short Edge Binding may provide more convenient page turns, but if you're putting the pages in an 8 1/2" x 11" binder, you may prefer Long Edge Binding.
