    [Misc] Scanning?

i have a 250ci in a drafting office that scans 30 pages in ledger size in color and usually will only send about 11-15 pages, not sure if there duplex or not. but the memory is not large enough to hold the whole document and send as one file. i thought there was a way to adjust how much memory it can hold to be able to send the whole fine but not able to find it. thanks for the help.

What method of scanning are you using?

I'm guessing that you're scanning to email. Typical SMTP servers can accept attachments from 5MB to 32MB, usually set to 20MB. What file size limitations are set in Command Center? What limitation exist on the SMTP server?

The next part will depend a lot on what type of originals you are scanning.

      1) Color- the machine comes defaulted to color scanning. A color scan creates a file 10x larger than than a black & white scan. For black & white scans default the machine to black & white.
      2) Resolution- The higher the resolution, the larger the file. For text or line drawings 200x200 or 300x300 provides adequate image quality. You have options from 200x100 to 600x600.
      3) Image Type- The default is Text-Photo. For test or line drawings the Text setting can give a smaller file size without giving up image quality.
      4) Sharpness & Density- Both can be adjusted to improve image quality without affecting the resulting file size.

With the right combination of features you can reduce the file size of 11" x 8 1/2" originals to ~8.5KB per page. That's a total of 2,350 letter size originals (base on a 20MB limit).
With the worst combination of features you can enlarge the file size of 11" x 8 1/2" originals to 150KB per page. That's a total of 133 letter size originals (based on a 20MB limit). Now if the limit is set to 5MB, that's 33 letter sized originals.

      Some other useless trivia:
Scans to email are consistently about 5% smaller in size than Scan to SMB or Scan to FTP, all other things being equal.

File type makes very little difference: PDF/JPG/TIFF

If you're just trying to get all the pages into one file and ultimately don't care about file size, you can scan to SMB or scan to FTP. File size is unlimited, the transaction just takes longer to occur.
      =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Also keep in mind that the T/As offer PDF compression, though if its a drafting office I'm guessing they're not scanning PDFs.
