    copystar 520i

    Hi fellas,

I just did a install on a brand new 520i and am having some issues with send / scan to email. I am thinking this might be my issue with authentication errors intermittent.

I noticed in the menu/system settings on the copier, in system setting there is an option for security level, the machines security level is set to high and I can not adjust it. In Command center its low but on the copier it is high and it is locked where I cant change it.

I am thinking this might be an issue with my problem, can you tell me how I can set this security level to low?

    Thanks

scan to e-mail. regarding w/ the authentication error i think you check the e-mail server servers setting.
you should concentrate on 520i's SMTP protocol settings.

after you clicked the Test button below the SMTP protocol settings did it say OK?

I have to recheck that .

This guy does scan to email only, that the way he is set up, I am trying to convince him otherwise.

I dont like the security level set high and want to change that.

Security settings have no influence on scan to email, usually smtp settings and/or sender settings are to blame for scan to email failure.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.

the Copystar kicks back a 3101 error, which is a mail server authentication error.

3101 Error: Server response The server is error status. Check if the server is working properly.
If I remember correctly, this is ususally a port issue, Double check it in the account settings of the customers email client.
Make sure they're not using SSL, try other "common" ports 2525, 465, 587.
                Hope that helps !

I spoke with my IT guy today about your post, he said their set up was not that complicated and it is all on an in house microsoft exchange system.

As of today it still intermittent pops the 3101 code, randomly and it does not matter if it is one document or 100.

Next week I have to send my IT there with their guy so they can resolve it. My guy swears it is not the machine and it is something in their email server that needs fixing. He wants them to look through the email server logs to find out what the issue is.

Your IT guy might find this useful. I've seen it on a number of occasions, although I can't recall what error code it generated.

3101 is just an authentication problem.
Like what i said earlier concentrate on SMTP protocol setting.
I think authentication on their e-mail server is on.
Kyocera Command Center > Advanced tab > SMTP
                        Authenticate as.. select Other
                        Login User Name : name@domain.com
                        Login Password: password

Click Test button to check if its OK or not.

                          smtp error

one thing that i have seen on the kyocera side is you may have to adjust the timeout to 90 or higher

My basic checklist for setting up scan to e-mail is as follows:
Most of these you can get from Outlook settings.

SMTP Server: IP Address or Host Name (if using host name, then make sure you have the correct DNS setting in the copier)
Authentication: On or Off. If On, use a valid e-mail address for that domain. Sometimes username, sometimes username@domain.com. Try both.
SSL: On or Off. Newer Kyoceras you can use this function.
Port Number: Default is 25. If SSL, try 465.
E-Mail Address: This is the return address. I used to use a dummy, but some e-mail systems require the same one you use with Authentication.

And I just learned this today, somewhere in the e-mail server settings (actual e-mail server, not the copier), you have to specify the IP address of the machine that will be sending out the e-mails.

                            Hope this helps.

check your dns settings... on the copier.... try using only one of your dns servers if you have multiple... and... extend your communication timeouts to the longest times...
