    Falcon II main charger mystery

I may have posted about this before.

I have a Km-3035 at a location that has a strange problem. I am have to replace the main charger about every 600 or so copies. It's a low volume account so this takes a couple months.

What happens is over time it gets to where you get black streaks throguh the copy in the direction of travel. It's apparently low charge in that area. We had replaced a couple drums till I discovered it was only the charge unit that was the culprit.

It's as though it is storing it up. And you will walk in to the call and the first few copies are great and it goes downhill from there. It's kinda like erase lamps maybe bad but why would it come and go and dissapear altogether for a couple months when you replace the charger. I have also tried just replacing the grid with no luck.

    Any ideas?????Medications?????

You can check your drum ground on the machine side and also your the voltage at the wall outlet your ground to neutral should be less than 1v

Cool idea but I just put the charger in a machine here at the shop and it did the same thing.

      Not the machine..

      Just the charge corona assy.

How about fans & filters? Ozone buildup in the machine will toast your primary early. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I know I checked those notorious filters in the bypass area. I have put like 4 main charge units in the past like five months.

              Jimbo,

Does the charge unit smell? is arching going on?

I had this issue with a 2550 and it was the drum housing. I know you said you replaced a few drums.

With the lites int he office off, cheat the door and look for arcing.

What about environmental conditions? What kind of company is this machine in? We had one that constantly toasted the main charger and even the drums in an environment with heavy industrial fumes. Just a thought......

Taking a contaminated or damaged charge unit and trying on a shop system will not logically rule out charge problems at the source system...if my memory serves me correctly...this system (while awesome in durability) will not usually notify you of errant charge abnormalities. Start at the wall outlet...check voltages. Triple check for evidence of arcing from drum unit itself.

                    oh yeah

                    1. A falcon 2 with EXTREMELY low volume is also know for heat buildup...regardless of fan mods. Set the auto cool down timer to a lower value...the inside of the system could be baking while idle...clumping the super fine mono toner system...this could contaminate the charge units due to excessive contamination.

At next change out of that unit...you might try dumping the dv mod and re priming it at the same time. clean out the drum unit and cleaning system out as well.
