It would be toward you straight, it won't go down. And remember the new gear set up is only for a .3mm drop, so pull with that number in mind.

Just a thought, check the toner solenoid operation in maint. mode. If you don't hear it click, it has failed and needs to be replaced... may have to try it multiple times... I had a machine that would say it needed toner, new toner installed... would also continually image cycle... would sometimes stop and work for a while, then start again.. had an intermittant problem with the toner solenoid.. once replaced, problem went away for good!!Comment

What we decided to do was drill the gear that fits into the coupler (3mm) so that the KM-4050i toner fits as a KM-4050. We've done this two times now and both have worked perfectly (so far).
Thanks to all for your help and support...we very much appreciate it!

The KM 4050i is the Ikon version. It takes the TK-719 toner cartridge.
The KM-4050 ( non i ) takes the TK-717 toner cartridge.
The gears on the back of the cartridge are not the same. Toner add gear is not the same. So you need to either install another gear or try to modifiy the toner cartridge gear somehow. I have installed the gear to convert the i version to take the normal Kyocera cartridge TK-717. It is a big job. But the TK-717 toner cartridge is about $20 cheaper than the TK-719 cartridge.
To change the toner add gear you need to remove the Main board assy. Take back cover off, then about 6 screws to remove main board assy. About 40 connecters. Pain in the butt. Good luck if you do this. Connector to the laser is easy to unplug if you are not careful.Comment
