    KM 2560 scanning

    hey guys,

slight problem with a kyocera km 2560 when scanning.
The customer want to scan in 600x600 dpi but the machine will only let me select up to 300x300. Firmware is the latest version.

    Any ideas??

    Thanks in advance.

Do you have "color" scanning selected? If yes, you're limited to 300 x 300 dpi. When you select Monochrome or B&W you can select 600 x 600 dpi.

    Why? It's probably something to do with memory limitations. A color scan 300 x 300 dpi is ~100KB per page. A B&W scan 300 x 300 dpi is ~10KB per page. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Some Kyoceras disable 600dpi color scanning until its memory is maxed out. The 2560 comes with 512MB, and the max is 1GB. It takes common, old computer memory (DDR1 I think); you can look at the sticker on the memory stick that is in there to get all the specs.

I think it's stupid for Kyocera to restrict it though: it still has 512MB of ram and a 80GB hard drive to use.
