paper tray issues

working on a fs-1128 mfp. Whenever the paper runs low the unit thinks it has no paper and it does. Not to familiar with this model, if any ideas as to what i should be looking at or if anybody has experienced the same issue the help would be appreciated.

We keep a couple of the wrap springs for the sensor arm as we've had a couple customers bugger them up. I don't remember exactly what the symptom is though.
