if it is happening just on copies, i'd look at exposure, if it is in a dirty enviroment, check mirrors. make sure firmware is up to date as well.

OK, Hands up, Mainly a Ricoh tech!!, But we have an issue on some of our machines, if you lean on the front left corner of the doc feeder (Doc Processor in Kyocera speak?) and feed throught the doc feeder (Proccessor) you can get a dark shadow on one edge If the scanner has deformed and the original is not pressed against the slit glass. Try "Reforming" the scanner by lifting the front left edge while copying and see if the shadow reduces.

if it has gray background with scans and prints, I'd check the developer unit

Hi,you must do a status page printout before you check any optics etc.If the status page has the shadow then its drum/developer problem. If no shadow then optics.
As you have already replaced the drum then I would suspect developer unit/toner problem.

A lot of people these days are buying 'after market' toner and this doesn't always work overly well with the genuine toner when mixed. 1st port of call for me would be to clean out the devolper unit and restart with fresh toner, be it generic or genuine.
