    TaskAlpha 181 Stapler

    Howdy,

I have a customer with a TaskAlpha181 with internal type finisher\stapler which fails to staple any more than 10-13 pages. A set of 15 will not staple. From what I can gather the stapler should handle up to 30 sheets @ 16-28lbs. Being an Aussie, I figure 80gsm would be around the equivalent.

The machine staples 100% correct with 10 sheets. With 15 the first 8 have holes and sheets 9-13 all have dents but the staple hasn't penetrated the entire stack.

This was my last call today and I didn't have long to check it out, but it almost seemed as though the staples just aren't strong enough and are bending before they make it through the stack.

i only have one of these machines in my field and to be honest I haven't been very impressed with it from the beginning.

Anyway, maybe someone can shed some light here.

    Cheers

You didn't mention what sort of media you're trying to staple.

I did a call like this on Okidata booklet finisher (aka Sharp AR-FN7). It was rated for 6-10 pgs of 20# bond. So the customer was running 9 sheets of cardstock (32#), and wondering why it didn't staple through, or fold properly. It would successfully staple and fold (1) 32# cover with (9) 20# pages, but no more. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Some of the older Canon finishers had plastic pinion gears on the stapler motor, that would slip, or split. It would work on smaller sets, but not larger. Maybe something like that?

Just about to head over there for a proper look now. Got a feeling its gunna be something like you suggest. Quite often a pain to find but oh well. Thems the breaks.

Can anyone tell me where to find the parts manual for DF-420 internal finisher on the Kyocera channels site?

            Found it.
