error code scanning smb code 2203

Ran accross a wierd one today customer could not scan anymore to his windows 7 using smb the code 2203 a time out error . Tried my normal options did not work. Did firmware update no change. Finally hooked my crossover cable and sent to my windows 7 computer. scanned the page status count timed the sending time to the folder it took 1minute 45 seconds to get it to the folder 300 by 300 res text only pdf this with cross over will normally take 10 to 15 seconds. I understand why it errors out when on the network. It is taking to long the crazy thing is it prints fine speed is normal fax fine also. tried 906 also any ideas? The scanned image in the folders look fine no background.

what's the settings like with a cross over cable? I've never done one with a actual crossover lol.

I could usually get things going(regular cat5), by keeping gateway/mask/dns the same.

If copier is at 10.10.0.1, then my laptop would be 10.10.0.#

      back on topic..

Long write time is ok, at least file transfer is successful. Is this SMB address consist of a computer name(ie. MYCOMPUTER) or IP?

DNS stopped working is my guess.

If your laptop was made within the last 5 years, you probably don't need a crossover cable. Also DNS is one of the last things used in hostname resolution.
I'd try using the IP address of the workstation. Could be a windows update or something that caused it to stop working.
        Hope that helps !

Re: error code scanning smb code 2203

In my experience, Win7 hates Kyocera, it hates SMB, I've discovered that Win7 hates me personally, and in all likelihood, it hates you as well.

My biggest problems with scanning in Win7 have to do with sharing permissions on the destination folder, and the security on the LAN. I have had many problems making scanning work on this OS, so here is the setup procedure that I have come to follow religiously:

-Always place the destination folder in the "Public" directory
-Share the folder directly, don't use a path such as "Public\Scans", just share the "Scans" folder.
-Open the permissions up on this folder as generously as can be allowed. Allow full control for "Everyone", and also for the primary user account.
-In the Network & Sharing Center, under Homegroup Sharing Options, set the following,
          -Turn on Network Discovery
          -Turn on File Sharing
-Turn on Public Folder Sharing ("so anyone with network access can open, change, and create files")
-Turn on Password Protected Sharing (in at least one case, I have had to turn this off for a user that did not have a password protected account)
**edit** I am looking at a Vista workstation, so the wording may be slightly different **

If it is still really slow, try temporarily disabling Live One, Security Essentials, Norton, AVG, or any other security they may have enabled, and test scanning speed for any perceivable changes.

After that, if you ask really nice, and whisper sweet nothings to Win7, it may be kind enough to allow your scans to pass through unchallenged, though I cannot guarantee anything.

Your on the money, but also do not forget to allow port 443 through any firewalls installed.

I think that Win7 though has a personal vendetta against me, at times it does not even like my admin rights, "Access not allowed"!
