machine runs at about 1/2 speed, checked paper settings to make sure they arent set for any special paper. Also locks up intermittently and have to cycle power to clear job. Have 1 code of C-0640. Also is it possible to backup the HDD to a USB i see in the maintenance report there is a U917 Read/Write Backup HDD Data (USB) however in my service manual it does not show such a mode??? Bad HDD or mainboard.....Help!!!!

U917 is for backing up the addressbook and any shortcut buttons programmed.
What you need to do is to reformat the HDD:
Do not power Off/On. Format hard drive: Status > 10871087 > 24 > Start > Execute > Start.
If the reformat fails or the code reoccurs, replace the HDD. There is no firmware on the HDD. The only thing you might lose is Custom Boxes and your scanner settings, so write those things down before you reformat. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
