    Scan to SMB KM-5050

Can I scan to a shared folder on a network drive?? I always thought the shared folder needed to be on the root (c) drive. If it can be on a network drive, do I still just use the share name "scans" for example?

    Thanks,

    Re: Scan to SMB KM-5050

You have to find the FULL base root of the shared/mapped network folder

    example.

Server has a C:\ drive on which you have a folder called lets say Company Files and within you have Scans folder.

If you share just the Scans folder it will be found on SMB channel..so "scans" should be enough

however if Company Files is mapped on network as a network drive let say X:drive then it would look something like this
X:\Company Files\Scans than your root will be not what you see a.e (X:\Company Files\Scans) or (X:\Scans) BUT

    C:\Company Files\Scans

I know silly but it took me a while to figure this out in the beginnings.

If I am wrong please correct me whoever is better at IT. thanx in advance.

I have a correction, habik. The first folder in the list must be the shared folder. You can have up to four levels of folders below that, but the path must start with the shared folder, and no drive letter or colon is necessary. And it has be an internal drive on the recipient PC, not an external drive. It's always easier to connect to a share folder on the root, that is why it is preferred. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

To speak plainly. Yes it can scan to a mapped drive, but's kind of an illusion.

The drive "maps" to a real drive you can hold in your hand. This is usually on the server.

So instead of scanning to BobsPC and MarysPC you must can to the server.

The client computers see "the z drive" or the "s drive", but in reality it's just a shared physical drive on the server. Many servers have a file hard drive, backup hard drive and normal C hard drive

As BC said, you only need the root folder and/or sub folder, no drive. Because the server doesn't have an X drive, the real folder would be on a F or E or whatever appears in "My Computer"

X drive was just a example

          Scan to PC:

          Host: PC1
          Path: Scans
          Username: USER1
          Password: 1234

Scan to mapped drive on server or any other physical drive that could be described as XYZ:

          Host:Server
          Path:\Company Files\Scans
          Username:Admin
          Password:x123x3

Network drive is already shared with subfolders however I found that When you enter JUST scans it does not always work!

          or am I missing something?

            Re: Scan to SMB KM-5050

Hey guys thanks for the replies. I understand about mapping a drive, and that the folder still actually resides on the root C: drive. I know that part works, done it many times.

I think blackcat4866 is on my train of thought:

Lets say I have a Server with the root drive of C: and several other internal drives for extended storage space. So with that in mind, lets say the customer wants to set up a scans folder on the F: drive for 3 teachers. So would my SMB folder tree look like the following even though it's on the F: drive:

            Path:Scans\Dave
            User name:
            Password:

            Path:Scans\Kim
            User name:
            Password:

            Path:Scans\Stacy
            User name:
            Password:

            Path:Scans\Jim
            User name:
            Password:

With the scans folder the only one being shared with all rights and permissions.

            Thanks,

Your English is fine, habik. Better than many of the native English speakers here.

                You identified the path as:
                C:\Scans\Bob
                when it should appear as
                \Scans\Bob
where Scans is the shared folder on an internal drive, and Bob is the recipient folder.

                No "C:"

Now Mac is another story. On some Macs you do need the entire path, including the IP address. For Macs I've had the best success with browsing to he folder, finding the properties (full path), then cutting/pasting that into the path in the web interface, but I won't get into that. =^..^=

I guess I just needed to put it in my own words. Your English is fine.

                  Thanks
