TA 300ci image quality - poor black density

    Hello all
I have a 300ci that is relatively new, been out for about 3 months. Problem is that anything that should be solid black comes out a dark gray - not black. I stopped a skyshot and see it poor density right on the black drum. I have tried swapping black and magenta drum - NO Change. Tried new Black DV unit - No change. Tech support wants me to replace the High voltage board, but I just want to see if anyone has had this issue as that board is a bit labor intensive to replace.

    Thanks for any help.

Does the problem happen on prints also or just copies?

        No, it's very labor intensive.
But I've heard of problems with the HVT, usually as a result of removing the main drive, and dropping screws down the backside of the HVT. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for ideas. I put out a loaner and have machine at my shop.

Have replaced HVPS main, and HVPS control boards - density still poor and mottled.

Happens on prints and copies, transfer is fine as all other colors print fine.

Process black is good on testing also.

when comparing same print from another 300ci they look same darkness, but defective machine's print looks very mottled. (same paper used for both also)

I will go thru the bulletin again and post an update.

Re: TA 300ci image quality - poor black density

I'd try u464, AC cal, K on, mode "0" as in factory setting.

                    If no improvemnt is shown...

Try U100, Set DC2 for K drum (full/half) to negative value. continually decreasing it and see if density comes back. This is for test only, pls restore to whatever setting it was at.

Swap the drum cylinder (not entire unit) with another that's available, execute u119. See if problem persist. If the density issue follows the original K drum cylinder, its the drum.

If the customer is a "stop and go" kind, you'll need to set u147 upper limit to 10% to keep the drum fresh .
