[Jamming] Multi-Size Job Jams In Print Mode But Not Copy Mode

When a multi page size pdf print file (8 1/2x11-11x17) is sent to the copier through tray A of the finisher, the machine will intermittently jam with a jam 83 code, the paper crunches in the jogger area of the finisher. The job is sent one page at a time and also outputted one page at a time. We send the same job through the finisher to tray B and the job prints fine. We also tried to reproduce through copy mode. We selected mixed size originals sent to tray A and it worked fine. The difference in copy mode is the job is sent to the jogger and is outputted as one stack instead of one page at a time. The customer has the current version firmware and the current driver. We also tried a different PDL setting(KPDL, PCL 5c, and PCL XL). It is currently on KPDL. The customer has this multi-size job jams in PDF form and excel. Any ideas or has anyone seen this before?

Re: Multi-Size Job Jams In Print Mode But Not Copy Mode

What's the model of this machine?

I had a FS-4020 printer jamming on multi-size jobs (LTR & LGL). This was over a year ago, so I don't recall my thought process behind this, but my work order says that I set one of the trays to "Heavy" stock to force a pause between the feeding of the paper sizes. I also set the driver to PCL5e, and set "the printer to emulate an HP8000 in the fax software." I don't remember what their fax software was like, so I can't even tell you what that entails anymore. Perhaps I just set up an HP8000 driver to print to the 4020's IP. I wish I could tell you which of these steps actually resolved the issue, but unfortunately I did not specify on my work order. I don't know if this helps, but maybe your can glean some useful information from this rambling!

Yeah, what model? I'm guessing that we're talking about a DF-710.

I can understand why the machine will output each page from the stapling tray. Due to the arrangement of the inlet path, if the first page is LGR, second LTR, third LGR, the third page may slip in between #1 and #2. If the first page is LGR, second LTR-R, third LGR, the stapling tray guides cannot align the narrower LTR-R page.

The majority of my problems with DF-710 finishers are related to paper curling. During the fall and spring I often default all machines with these finishers to Tray B, Tray C, or Top Tray. If there is a cure for the paper curl issue I'd like to hear about it. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

The DF-710 has a timing wheel. You'll need to check the position once in a while. The belt does skip under load which throws the timing off.

The model is a CS 552ci and the jams only occur when printing to the copier and does not jam when using the document feeder.

              Are you sure it's not a DF-760(B) or DF-780(B)? =^..^=

                Sorry it is the DF-760.
