    CD 1250 (KM5050) PWB board - RJ45 / USB B Combo connector issue

Has anyone came across a intermittent connection issues on these machines. Those pins inside are so shoite. I had to bend, pull do all sorts of things to make them work..

I am thinking to replace them, just can't source the device RJ45 / USB B combo jack, there is plenty RJ45 / USB A or / USB A+USBA but not many of the USB B kind.

Any experience with the silly connectors? The housing of the connector I think is not deep enough to make a "safe" connection all the time.. maybe design think...

Just wondered what whether you had similar or how you treated it, except changing PWB. as it is quite pricey.

    Many Thanks

What's the symptom habik? Does it lose connection when you wiggle the cable?

My guess is that it's dropping off the network intermittently, and has nothing to do with the cable or connector. If that is indeed the case you may have power events knocking it off the network. Then hours later it may recover, and reappear. The only way to really prove this is to put on a power quality analyzer and record power events over 48 hours.

If it really is the connector, it is risky to change the RJ45. I've tried to do this recently on an HP LJ1319nf MFP and it went bad. Even with extra care two traces peeled off the PWB. I'm sure I have a couple scrap PWBs with RJ45 connectors, but I think you'll find that it's more difficult than it looks.

I changed a bunch of these connectors on Canon iR550 machines but that was before the current level of miniaturization. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      The symptoms are:

No connection what so ever on one machine and occasional connection I can even ping it and see the web interface but it would not print to it on other machine.

I was trying to trace the RJ45 / USB B combo jack, got to the manufacturer but they asking me for drawings?! so no chance unless I modify the connector or board. I know it is hard to take connectors of.. ideally is to do it with pcb solder heatgun.

We sent 1 board to get it repaired so will see the outcome hopefully today.

The 2nd board is a hard nut to crack. Will post later.

Xmultiple was the manufacturer of these dual RJ45/USB connectors, The current part number that will work is: XRJB-B60--DA1-170, they have a minimum ordewr of about 100. There can be other issues causing your problem though. Are the pins in the connector bent? I sometimes get these boards in with the pins damaged due to what looks like someont having tried to plug a SB connector into the network port. If your pins are bent you will need to replace the connector. This is not an easy task and requires dedicated desoldering equipment. The Network chip on the main board can cause these type of problems as well. It is a small chip about 1/2 inch or less square and is a surface mount chip. Hope this helps.

Hats off to you if you re solder these yourself!
