    FS-3540 setup question

I have a customer who has added a second tray and wants to use it exclusivly for checks. I can't seem to find info in any of the manuals how to dedicate the tray for checks so that for instance when you are doing a copy job and tray 1 empties it should not start pulling the checks from tray 2. I know I can change the media type setting and turn off auto tray switching but I am looking for a setting so that the machine will never use tray 2 unless you are doing a print job and specifically request that tray.

All I can think of is to set the media type for the cassette to something other that normal. Download operations manual and look in section 9.

I agree with copiman set media type to something like letterhead and the other tray as plain. set up a seperate driver for that tray also and set preferences and defaults to the same settings. all other printing set the other driver up to plain and tray 1. that should do it.

Thanks guys, but as I stated in my question I was looking for a different solution, ie. as in the Panasonic machines one could set a tray as special and then only the printer driver would recognize that tray when requested. Thanks again.

Just out of curiosity, what's the problem with changing media type? That's what that setting is for.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

There is a "sim" for just a "print only cassette" Try sim "341", that should give you the way to print only that cassette. Russ

Blackcat, It's in a small office with to many knowitalls. Nuff said. Rusmacman, thats what I am looking for but it's not available on the 3540. So bottom line I'll have to do it with media type settings and deal with the customer screwups when the machine somehow changed it's settings and messes up the checks.

Twits. I just had one of those the other day.

"... you mean I have to select "Envelopes" every time I want to print envelopes?"
hmmm... does the answer seem obvious? =^..^=

now i don't know the complete set up you have but Q,how may need to print cheque's? if only one then maybe you can deselect the tray in the driver under device setting's for all the rest and set up a local driver just for the 1 that needs to print the cheque's with tray 2 enabled. this would eliminate any printing from other user's, also change the media type for tray 2, i have never tried this so i don't know if it will tray switch or not from the other user's.

Good idea Madas but that would only help in regards to printing, and yes changing media type is the only way to go Thanks
