KM-5035 fuser issue only via side by-pass

From the 2 drawers and the bottom bulk feeder unit, all copies are A-OK. When using the by-pass, print can be rubbed off.
Meter is only 228K on this. Tried heat variations in U161 - made no difference. Was going to do firmware but couldn't find the little scan card reader and the "1" good low Mb scan card that worked. Anyway, not certain why would only have fusing issue from by-pass. BTW, all intake fans/screens clean.

Any ideas or direct knowledge of issue greatly appreciated!

Is it something weird like bypass is programmed as transparency?

Yeah. You didn't mention what media type you're using, and what media type the MP tray is programmed to. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

That was my first thought, the media type being run doesn't match what the MP tray is set to.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success

have tried different settings. For regular paper, initially tried normal settings then thicker (higher heat settings) For 60 lb tried heavy, paper, card stock, labels etc. then as mentioned tried different heat settings also.

And the other trays are unaffected? It makes no sense ...

You know, I've seen the pressure roller bearings disintegrate, but that would definitely affect any/all trays. I think I'd try the fuser anyway. =^..^=

Is the fuser original or a replacement?

Re fuser don't know for certain. Meter only 228K has a little waverly in the lower roller - but seen that in a lot of them.

The machine was a donation from a bank to a church. We didn't service it earlier.

It sounds like what the machine should be telling the fuser to do and what the machine is telling the fuser to do when the bypass tray is being used are two different things.

I can only take a guess at this point that there is a firmware program error.

                  My initial suggestions are:

                  1. wipe out the drive and reinstall latest firmware;
                  or
                  2. tell the client to not use the bypass

Verify that both fuser lamps are coming on. If not, ether the lamp is bad or you have a board issue. If I remember correctly a burned out lamp will not code out or if its not coming on. I think that when the by-pass is used the lamps have a different heat sequence (?)

                    Good Luck
