km6030 to km8030

I have a question, has there been a conversion kit for converting a km6030 into a km8030?
could it just be an eeeprom chip like a governor on a car carb?or a simple circboard switch?
I ask because i have converted minolta biz hubs from 25 to 35 ppm with just the switch of a chip.
I have just wondered about this since i can get 6030s with low meter and not the 8030.
the two machines look like the only difference is the speed.

No personal experience, I think it is a matter of service ROM... Even the FW is I believe the same.

Interesting it is indeed. If you want to save some time just change the front door label

Would want to see which customer would be actually measuring the actual speed 20 ppm is a lot but when your feed tyres are bit worn on 8030 it is as fast as 6030 ..hope I put smile on your face

That's a really good question and I wish I knew the answer.

I'm familiar with the NEC versions of them. Most of the parts, service manuals, and tech bulletins applied to both machines but I don't know enough about how they're limiting the speeds.

If someone was tech savy enough to program their own chips you could probably actually bump up the speed to around 100ppm and the machine would likely handle it.

There's a point where a machine is made solid enough to be able to withstand a wide range of speed, and then more importantly volume.

I've seen the same thing you have where if the copier is sold as a 60 ppm machine and at the 60 ppm price; more people are able to afford it and end up underusing it. Whereas if it's sold as an 80 ppm machine the click counter tends to be much higher; although still arguably underused.

If anyone knows the answer to this I'd be interested in knowing.

Here would be an interesting way to test it. Start swapping parts between the 6030 and 8030, like hard drive, ram, boards, etc and see if they work. In theory if all the parts programs at 80ppm were placed in the 60 ppm machine, then it should print at 80ppm rather than 60ppm.

That is an intresting question, they use the same laser, and I believe all of the boards are the same with the exception of the Main PWB.

The only difference I have found is that the 6030 Has a crystal at X7 that runs at about 13 MHz and X6 has no crystal and the 8030 has a crystal at X6 that runs at around 17 MHz and no crystal at X7. So the 8030 clock for IC 63 runs at about 4 MHz faster than the 6030. This could explain part of the differences. I do however believe that there are more differences than the crystals.
