    copystar 2550 copy quality

Hi everyone. Hope you can give me a hand. I normally work on toshiba or ricoh stuff and am not familier with copystar. My account bought a cs 2550 at an auction and wants to know if I can make it work. the copy is splotchy with dark and light areas. I pulled the develeper unit out and the mag roller is not coated evenly at all. I know this is a mono componet toner. Looking into the unit while turning the gear the mixer does not appear to turn. Broken gear maybe? also dosent seem to be much toner in the unit, does it self regulate the toner level or do I have to add some? I know how to get into the service mode but dont know any of the service codes I might need. Any ideas and information is greatly appreiciated. thank you

The maint. code for the developer is 130, that will add toner. If you find anything wrong/broken with the developer unit, you'll have to replace the whole unit. The part number for the Kyocera developer (and I believe Kyo and Copystar interchange) is 302FT93053. If you do end up changing the developer, make sure you run maint 130 to fill the developer.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success

The dev unit probably just sat too long since it was bought at an auction. Just an FYI I'd look at the fuser once you get the dev unit going. We've had problems with toner sticking to the fuser. No rhyme or reason for it. It comes out looking like a double image on the output.

2550 has a separate toner motor and sometimes the motor goes and takes out a transistor on the engine board. You can run SIM 135 to test the toner motor.

thanks for all the information. I took another look at it and emptied, cleaned, and refilled using 130 code. did not change anything, same crappy copy. I had to tell them I could not help them....hate to do that since I had 2 hrs in it but didnt feel I could fix it in a reasonable amount of time. I'll stick to ricohs : )
