Could be caused by the lamp not lighing up while scanning. Or the main charge corona is gounding out. check all connections on the main charge unit. look to see if it has been arching (black spots on the grid or metal around the wire.) Make a copy with the lid up and see if the lamp is lighting up while scanning.
All the black copies I ever had with the 3050, 4050 and 5050's was always due to the Main Charge Corona Unit. I usually remove the motor that cleans the corona unit, because they fail a lot, and leave the one gear that drives the corona wire and grid cleaner.
Remove the Corona Assembly and clean the grid and wire real good with alcohol. If this resolves the problem, make sure you keep a Corona in your Car Stock. If not could be the Main Board. Check to see if you get print while in simulation 1087, 1087, maintenance 000 and print. If you get a print in simulation could be the board. Check to see if the scanner bulb is coming on. Black copies can also be caused by the laser unit but you'll get a code. Most likley it's the Corona... good luck.
We might be taking over service on a 5050 that is now doing this black copy problem. I will inform them that until the drum unit is replaced, we wont. That should take care of my problems, since it worked so well with the 5050 I mentioned in this thread. And my daughter just turned 1. man time flies.
Best rule for troubleshooting.

Those charge units on those are notoriously fragile and we have had some go out just checking them. My suggestion is try another charge unit. You will need to check cq after that to make sure it didn't pit the drum....which will mean yoou need to replace the drum.
