    [CQ] TaskAlfa250ci

    Hi Folks,

I have a TA250ci giving intermittent yellow background(see attached image). All 4 drums and developers have been changed along with the transfer belt assembly and 2nd transfer roller. I have performed sim 21 memory clear, and the firmware is the latest. I have also reseated connectors on engine, HV and Bias pcb's. When you try to run sim464 AC calibration you get error 20 after 15 seconds. Any input would be much appreciated.

You might have corrupt firmware or the wrong one loaded. Kyocera has put out one firmware for the 250-300ci and another for the 400-500ci.

Firmware was correct files for 250ci and was redone twice.

i can see from the scan that the firmware is the latest, but have you gone straight from a lower version to the latest,or straight to ver 13? if you have this may be whats causing you issues, there are quite a few settings that need to be adjusted when loading new software

Before the problem started the F/W was ver 11 and as far I am aware there was no issue with taking it from 11-13.

I would advise you to replace the Transfer Belt, I know you have already done this but i have myself put a whole kit A + B into one of these machines and get a Magenta backround on some copies,
I reloaded Firmware checked all units and swapped each unit with the old unit until i put the Transfer Belt old back in.

The copy quality was 100 times better with the old TB so i ordered a new TB, left the old one in and replaced it upon arrival. I would ask that you try another transfer belt, even a working second hand one or the previous one and test. Im sure it will work

Did you replace the charge roller as well?

Its not really clear, but there are yellow pit marks that can be produced by arcing. What about the contacts at the rear of the drum assembly? If its arcing that quickly right after you replace the drum unit...something is wrong on the voltage control side.

Cant be the laser cuz its been written nicely in yellow area where the colour needs to be. The yellow background is directional so its definitely by either T-belt or Drum. But since T-belt primary transfer roller doesnt really create problem that isolate single colour. It still leads to the drum unit. (limited experience, may not be the case)

If at certain rotation the charge is applied unevenly, drum surface will grab whatever toner there is from the DLP due to having low surface potential, and it will appear on the T-belt.

I'd check Y drum and the associated contacts again.

NOT the connector, but if you check inside the engine bay while the drum is out, there should be coil spring contacts, maybe its dirty? Leaking DLP can foul that up easy.

                Just speculating,
Idling colour developers are not healthy developers.

swapped the old TB and Yellow dev + drum. Machine was completely gutted out and vacced, bias springs on rear frame all checked. I am now going to return with an HV pcb as I recall a similar issue on the Voyager chassis regarding debris falling on to the HV pcb causing it to produce magenta background.

Looks like a possible build up of toner in the developer unit between the drum and the dev unit itself.

Remove the yellow developer unit, vacuum out the excess toner build up off the rec-mylar and then shake sh!t out of the developer unit to
even out the developer inside the dev unit. Check that there hasn't been any excess toner dropped on the laser glass under the drums. Run the laser cleaner sim in user mode.

I'm interested to know your final fix....

have you tried to run sim 119? Do you get any kind of error code from this?

Update, returned to the customer on Friday with various pcb's and the machine was producing lovely copies. I was able to run sims 412 and 410 but still getting error 15 & 20 when I run sim 464 AC calibration. As the customer has a lot of copying to catch up on I have left the machine running in it's current state and will update this thread when I return.

Latest update, the fault returned so I went back out and replaced the HV pcb. Result = All is good. All set up and calibrations performed with good results. It is not the easiest of tasks to replace this pcb but worth it in the end !!!!!!
