    [Misc] Copystar 2550 Scanner Setup

Scanner won't connect to computer. How can you use scanner file utility if the computer can't connect to the scanner. Tried over and over again to change settings as suggested but always get message "can't find scanner" or "communication protocol error". Had it set up fine before, but recently changed modem and router and can't get it to connect now. Using Comcast modem to Belkin router, both cables for printer plugged into Belkin Router. Used address book to register, but not sure it registered. Can't get Address Editor to connect to scanner, get above errors. Can't use scanner file utility because it doesn't see the scanner. Printer is set up and working, network is working. Can anyone help?

Have you connected the scan card to the network? Two network cards means two network cables. It's a common mistake. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yes, everything is set us as before, two cables into the printer, both cables to the router which is plugged into the Comcast modem. It is not as obvious as that. I have set a different IP address for the scanner, can ping it, but can't connect via web browser or through address editor, or anything for that matter. Perhaps my card has died. Don't know what else to try. Was trying to avoid $150 charge for copier tech to come to office

I can't get it to connect through address editor. Have set up scanner file utility, address book, but when I get in address editor, can't get it to connect anyway I try. Can't find scanner. Will see if I can try your other suggestion of using crossover cable. Should have one at home, but once I get that, what steps do I take? Thanks for your help...about ready to call the copier repairman tech. Thanks

Your tech can initialize the scan card, there's a simulation up in the U500's (U504?). If that doesn't help perhaps he'll load firmware. It's separate from the machine firmware, and a slightly different process. After that there's nothing left but to replace the scanner NIC card.

Windows 7, but it worked fine before. Just had to get new modem & router, then it won't connect to scanner. Just to confirm, I do need a separate IP address for the scanner, correct? I was sure I was using the same one as the printer before, because I didn't realize there were two separate cards. Either way I set it up, it won't connect to the scanned. Why can I ping it and not get it through the web browser?

What is the cost of a NIC card. Is that something I could purchase and put in myself? If not too expensive, worth a try.

Yes, the scan card and print card must have separate, unique IP addresses. If you've got dupes neither will function properly.

I recommend that you contact your local service provider for loading firmware, or replacing scan card with firmware installation. (The scan card will most likely not have current firmware loaded.) =^..^=

Two network connections and two unique IP addresses. AS blackcat stated. Why not pay a technician to set this up correctly. We are technicians and this is how we make a living. If all that we did was to give advice to non copier technicians we would not have a job.

Because it is ridiculous to have to pay $150 to have a copy tech come out every time you do something as simple as changing a router, modem or computer. It should not be that difficult. I thought this is what the forums were for, to give suggestions when a person gets stuck. I have set this all up before, by myself, without the help of a technician. Just followed the directions and it worked. All I was trying to find out is if I had missed something obvious, or if possibly the NIC card is broken. No one answered my question about whether I could purchase a NIC card myself or if it is difficult to install. I don't see anything wrong with trying to help the company I work for save some money by doing it myself. If you feel you are giving away too much information to us do it yourselfers, then maybe you should stay off the forum.

I suspect this points to at least part of your problem. If you're getting a reply from the ping, you may have another device with the same ip. Remember also that since you changed a router, the subnet and gateways may be different.

Thanks, but tried all that. No other item has that ip address, assigned several different ones to the scanner, but still no luck. And yes changed the subnet and gateway to correct ones, but no connection happening. I have read where Windows 7 may be a problem, but it is the same computer, just different router and modem. Turned off firewalls and internet security to try connection, nothing helps.

Sometimes you have to cut your losses and call a professional. Once I tried surgery to remove an orange size tumer from my brain and got up to the part where they saw your skull open and had the dremel out with a diamond saw blade but could not bring my self to do it so I went in to my Dr. and showed the youtube video on how to and he went berzerk.

I'll have to disagree with that one. You come to play in our playground, without the proper background to do the job right. I won't undercut my colleagues by giving away services that they'd earn their living from.

I'll help any enduser with enduser related usage problems. And I'll help any technician with technical aspects. And the line is very clear to me.
