I'm thinking this is a behavior issue, not a machine issue. Once the laser unit cleaner is properly homed I can run it all day long without an error.
This is what I think is happening: Enduser1 sends a print job. About 1/2 way through the machine decides to do a slit glass cleaning. After about 10 seconds impatient Enduser1 says: "WTF! What a piece of shit ... !" Then without reading the message on the screen ("Cleaning the laser unit.") Enduser1 either flips off the main switch or opens the top cover, being sure to slam the cover as hard as possible. Now the laser cleaner is not properly homed, and the DP latch is bent so that the DP will not raise. When powered back up the machine makes lots of gear noise then pulls a C4600. This confirms his original diagnosis: "What a piece of shit!" And he walks away after disabling the machine ... AGAIN.
If you're out there Enduser1, please-please-please read the f'ing screen before interrupting a machine cycle. It might be adding toner, it might be cleaning the laser slit glass, it might be calibrating. There are many things that the machine must do periodically in-between making copies.
