    [Misc] FS4020 Cassette Lifter Issue

Haven't seen this one before.. FS4020 with 61K copies..Load the cassette with paper and as the tray plate starts to lift, it pushes the cassette outward and the lifter falls back down. I've repaired cassette lift gears before and that's not the problem. Customer has many of these and switching cassettes does not solve. Slightly pushing in on the tray as it lifts, and it does ok . Do the rails wear out ? I work on this model almost every day , but have never seen this ???

There's a broken feature on the cassette base. You've got two choices:

    1) wait 6 weeks for a cassette base to arrive and transfer over all the other extraneous parts, or
    2) order the cassette assembly, get it the next day, and slide it in.

    I've seen this one before on a FS-2000D. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      Hi.
The only thing I can think of as you have changed the cassette is that the lift motor may have a damaged tooth or is some how moving enough to push the tray forward? Not sure that if the guides were damaged it would do that as only the lift plate should in therory be moving on the inside of the cassette.
Can you watch the lift from the back and see if there is anything obvious (if you have not tried that)? def a weird one, same as you work on them regulary and I have worked on this range for years and never come across this fault.
      please up date once fixed.

If you have tried different cassettes...same problem ..... it may not be the cassette.
Look at the left side frame and the ' guide, cassette ' on the right side. The cassette has indentations on the side rail ( it's plastic, so it wears down ) BUT it also wears on the guides in the printer. Probably the detent on the ' guide, cassette ' is worn.
You may have to either build that piece up; or just replace it.
If it IS the cassette worn .... well, like BlackCat said.... get a new one .
Please let us know how this turns out:
like Madas said ' been workin' on this frame ( 2000 > 4020 ) and not had this problem ; Broken gears, YEAH, but , not pushing the cassette out on this frame.

God grant me the serenity to accept stupid people , the courage to not waste my time and energy on them , and the wisdom to know that I cannot fix STUPID .

I did not resolve this issue. Customer has 50 of this model and switching half dozen or so cassettes (one with only 3k prints ) the issue still presented itself. Out of "anger", I took my pocket knife and neatly carved out the indentations on the rail to get a better seat..Nothing, I began to question the drive gear on the printer..The customer had 9 of these stacked up in the supply room they weren't using, so I swapped out the printer(163k prints) and all was well. I will revisit this issue eventually. I had way too many calls that day to experiment.. Willl advise if solved.

i know its a bit of an old thread but the rail guide on the lower right is to blame as henryt2 has said in the previous post. pushes the cassete open causing a clicking noise. I've had to replace 2 or 3 of these on the high volume machines. easy job to do. done 1 today
