[Misc] KM2050 Scan set up with Crossover cable

    Hi Guys,
I am new to these forums, but the community here seems great so I was hoping someone would be able to help me re: issue with my KM2050.

I've had this printer for a while but have always used it for it's print function rather than it's scan function.

My current set up involves my laptop currently being connected to the scan card on the printer via crossover cable.

The next step I did was print off the printer status page and I noted that the ip listed was 192.168.1.13.

From here I tried entering that ip into my browser but nothing comes up. I can ping the address (but I could also ping it without the ethernet cable so I'm not sure whats happening there).

Could anyone shed some light on my situation?

    Thanks.

There are two NIC cards. One for print next to USB port and another right above that for scanning. If you had your laptop plugged into the printer NIC then you were pinging the printer nic. . If you do not have a Scan Nic then you won't be able to scan. Scan cards are available.

      Hi Jude,
      Thanks for the prompt reply.

I understand that, and I can confirm that my crossover cable is currently plugged into the scan card. If the scan card and print card have different IP's, then I'm assuming that the IP from the status page is for the printer.
In that case how do I find the IP of the scan IP?

      Thanks again,

      J

If you go under the system menu and down to I believe scanner defaults it will list the ip of the scan nic card which will be different from the printer nic card...

Yup. and you still have to configure using scanner file utility. Have you ever installed one? Prolly not. So your next question is ,"how do I configure the scanner utility." Now I know this is the information super hiway but if you want that info it will cost you a toll. I bet Paul Has the manual or if he doesn't I can email you the info. It is good info too.

This is true...Scanner File Utility is needed...I think I try to repress the information on dealing with SFU...I hate it...

I agree with the comments above.

Elementary, yes, but be sure that your laptop is set to a static IP address in which the last octet is different than the scan card address. Note: the scan card address is viewable/settable from the System Menu, but not printed on the Status Page. The one on the Status Page is the printer NIC only. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for your replies guys,I am able to access the printer and can send through the addressbook data to the scanner. Only problem now is that file scan utility is not picking it up and still says no printer connnectedI could not find the latest version of file scan utility on the kyocera website, is there a more updated software for windows 7 64 bit?Is any of this because my scan card is not working? Also is TWAIN possible with this scanner? If you guys are confident that the manual can resolve my issues, I do not mind providing a donation. Let me know. Thanks!

I would have the manual handy but it only provides limited info for setup. First let's define terms:
Access the printer- enter the printer IP.
Access the scanner- enter the scanner IP.
                  The two are not interchangeable.
You must enter the scan ip to access the sender user. Then you configure from there.
But first you must configure scanner file utility and allow exceptions on the firewall.
Then create a folder in my docs. call it SCANS.
Download latest scan file utility from the kyocera web site.
                  Open it in my programs.
Look for the icon in the lower right by the clock. Right click and press configure.
Map it to the folder you created.
right click again and press start.
                  You are in like flynn.
Get the copyright Manual from Paul. He needs the money. He lives in Vegas you know. Avoid imitations and buy from Paul.

Do you have a router or hub connected?

Thanks, & Yes I do. Is USB scanning possible?I think for the set up my problem was using an outdated SFU, i found a newer one online (mind you, the kyocera website did not have one at all for windows 7).I seem to be up and running using crossover cables now thanks guys !
