KM3050 - Black Line when printing envelopes after Firmware upgrade

Hi,

After a firmware upgrade there is a black line when printing envelopes and the only way to get rid of it is to specify the paper size/type settings for the MP Tray. The customer is "pissed" because they are using the MP Tray for other media as well and they do not want to do something they did not have to do before (specifying the right size/type each time they change the media). Is there any setting to get rid of that black line please?

I guess they'll just have to remain pissed. It's necessary to set media setting to the correct size/type every time it's changed.

Sorry, the line in the attachment is not visible after scanning to my email, but it's in CF direction, where the arrow points. Tried on other Kyocera models and there is no line, just waiting for the opportunity to try on another machine of the same model; in the meantime hope someone might have dealt with this before. I am also not sure what causes that line, is it cause by the LEds that turn off at that timing or is it caused by something else?

Regardless, choosing size and type is necessary, and probably has nothing to do with firmware.

I used to believe that too, but after this issue did some testing and found out that Kyocera does not care about paper size and type as long as you chose the paper source. For example, you can set the MP tray for Envelope and put Legal paper there, then you print a LT size page by selecting MP Tray and everything prints fine, no beeps, no jams! The image is going to print within the area of the paper size setting, in this example Envelope, but there shouldn't be any lines. Tested this on other Kyocera models and there are no lines.
Btw, this is huge advantage that Kyocera has over other manufactures. Canon does not allow you to cheat the size on the MP tray because it will come up with a guide error message; Konica allows you to cheat but it will jam, whereas Kyoceras do not care about the timing between Lead to Trail edge, they will feed anything through!
Customers do not care what is right and wrong, all they care is the least number of steps and time they waste....

Teaching the customers how to use the machine as it was intended to be used by the manufacturer would save both you time and the customers time. A twenty minute key op is way better than multiple calls where you're trying to figure out undocumented shortcuts to save the customer one or two button presses.

You are talking two different things here...media type and media size....the machine can detect media size when MP tray is set to auto-detect but could never detect media type. If your customer was running envelopes without programming the media type...you would probably get fuser issues down the road...as others have said "customer needs to be trained"

Customer "needed" to be trained, now I have to find the previous version of firmware.
Btw, Just replaced the fuser at 400K; it was never replaced before, yet "auto" and "plain" MP tray settings. Nice marketing feature for Kyoceras!

COM10 paper size is not identifiable by the size auto detection. It can only identify statement-R, letter, letter-R, folio or legal (your choice), and ledger. COM10 must be manually selected. But it sounds like you've got your solution. Congratulations. =^..^=

The MP Tray was set to Auto/Plain and for 6 years in a raw the customer does not have to select/chose anything, whether they print onto envelopes or LG or LD paper.

True, Kyocera does not treat envelope COM10 as a Standard Size (unlike Konica etc.) but as Statement. However, this is transparent to the users; they they simply put the envelope on the MP Tray and print envelopes from the MS Office without any problem! The quality of the image on the envelope is fine and the machine does not beep or stops with error messages...

The customer called for a display issue so I did a firmware upgrade and a few days later they called back because now they are getting lines when printing envelopes.

I do not know if "broke" the machine or the customer but now I have to fix it. The customer does not care what is right and what is wrong, just put things back to the way they were before! lol

COM10 is not the same as statement-R, and never was.

Never said COM10 is the same as statement, they are totally different sizes. BUT, since the closest standard size to COM10 is Statement, if the MP Tray is set to Auto, the machine treats / "thinks" that the COM10 is statement based on the position of the MP Tray guides.

You have to put yourself in customer's shoes ... so I do not blame the customer for asking what they had before, right or wrong, because they were used to it, they liked it and it saved time for them ...

I had a customer that printed on paper smaller than statement through the bypass...I set up a program for them and you would have thought that it was such an inconvenience for them...just 2 key strokes instead of 1...I had to program tray as statement because they were pissed cause pressing 2 keys was too labor intensive.
