CS 3035 scan to copy odd issue -help

So we service Legal department which scans (copies) about 3,000 legal originals per month. The problem mentioned never shows up when they are scanning/copying letter -which is about 12,000 per month

So the Intermittent problem they keep having is always the same when it happens. The first ~ 1/2 of the page is blank. However, this may happen 1 out 50 , 1 out of 500 or there may be 5 bad ones in 20 copies.
The 3 times we have gone out we ran 500 originalss and didn't get it to happen.

When it does happen the last half of the image is exactly where it should be.
It is just like the scanner doesn't turn on or something until later.

Obviously when they are doing court cases and have to hand check each set, there get very frustrated. We are drawing blanks. Perhaps a main board but not certain. Could be an expensive guess :-(

BTW, box is current on firmware.
One other odd item that may somehow tie into this issue. - IS now and then it will copy letter onto the wrong direction even when paper is loaded in all trays. (So a portrait position will show up portrait on a landscape postiined paper)

    Anyone have any similar issues?

Have you spent any time with the document processor?

If the original does not clear the exit sensor in time, it may delay the commencement of the next scan.

I'd go through and thoroughly clean every DP roller, and replace the consumables (pickup, feed, separation).

How many scans on the DP?

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

First I probably used wrong "term" speaking of scanning.
I meant while feeding 11x14 originals via doc feed to make copies.

They have 259K that have gone through doc feeder.

We did a basic cleaning but will check in more detail.

      Thanks for tips.

Unfortunately when we cleaned it we ran 500 through doc feeder and had no problems. Problem came back about 1000 later.

Are you sure about that image size?

If it is indeed 11 x 14 that's probably a big part of the problem. Non-standard paper sizes can confound the paper size detection.

        More likely, you meant 8.5 x 14.

Also check to see if there is any 8.5 x 13 mixed in. I've come across this paper size very rarely. Sharp has a setting to detect 13" or 14" originals (but not both). I don't know about how Copystar deals with this.

          We may have the answer.
When we first went out it turns out that an legal assitant had cleaned the top of the copier and in so doing had cleaned a heavy dust film off the top of the black plastic sensor cover. Therefore the sensor could read OK. SO when we went out a the next day to check on the problem reported by the office manager, we couldn't duplicate the problem.

As the copier is in a dusty hallway, the black plastic would then get covered over and as it got worse the "non" read of an 8.5 x 14 would cause the problem. Cleaning the plastic and taking bottom cover off the doc feed and cleaning dust off the sensor has seemed to take care of the problem.

          Thanks for the inputs!
