    KM-3232 Scanner problem

Scanner function not available, amber light stays lit on console. Also cannot do a U020 initialization or a U024 hard drive format. tried a different hard drive and ribbon cable with no effect.

This doesn't explain your inability to do a U020 or U024, but I'd try U504 Scanner Card Reset. As you would suspect, you'll lose any settings you've made to the scanner card.

For the lack of U020, U024, it's got to be a bad main board. But if you can get the scan card reset, it might not matter.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      I tried a board swap

I switched the main board located under the exit area, the board in the back, the hard drive, ribbon cable, and scanner board. still with no effect. I will try the scanner card reset.

      thanks

At this point you're probably desperate enough to try this:

You can take your original hard drive, format it in another Voyager, then put it back in the original machine.

As the scan card goes, it's an IB-23 which is the same one used in all Voyagers, Harriers. I'd swap one in to either fix the problem, or rule out the scan card. You can't reload the scan card firmware until you can communicate to it, so forget about the firmware for now.

I had a fax Sys (M) do something similar. It would work for a few days, then all fax functions would disappear from the menus. Reload firmware, works fine, then after a couple hours or days disappears. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Replace Fax Sys (M). Hasn't reoccured.

          =^..^=

            this is what I did...

I put a good hard drive in the machine. It was still doing the same thing, not able to format, not able to run a U504 etc.. BUT!!! when I removed the scanner board I was able to communicate with the HDD and was able to format it!! Then I returned the scanner board and it worked!! I did the same thing with the original HDD and found that it was bad..

            WHEW!! tough one!

            Thanks for your help!

Doing "clear machine defective part" mode fixed it for me.
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

Turns out it came back. Where is the Hard drive for the scanner located? And what size HD is it? (will a 40 gig 2.5? work? ie laptop had) or do I need a 3.5 drive?

I take it I'll have to format the new drive after install correct? Will all the settings (ie address book) be lost?

Do a U917 backup to USB, Export.
Then when your finished re-formatting, Set the scan card to DHCP to grab the basic info. Set your static IP, then do a U917 import from USB.

Would the Export to USB be a regular 2 gig jump drive?

Sorry to keep poking (but I'll be doing this tomorrow) Is there only one usb port on the copier? Is said port under a cover that I need to remove?
