TaskAlfa 300ci Fax and Printer network issues

    Hi All,

I am running in an environment with a TaskAlfa 300ci on a 2003 32-bit server and a mix of x86 Windows XP and x64 Windows 7 clients using this printer as a network printer. This Print/fax has given us so many issues in the past three weeks alone, we're pulling our hair out.

It is running the most recent an proper KX driver, with KPDL Emulation on the server. What will happens is when users go to print, it freezes their adobe, workpad, excel, whatever and takes forever to print. Sometimes a full reboot of the printer has to take place, other times the print server has to be bounced. Our network is gigabit ethernet, so it's not a speed issue.

The other thing is that the Fax will sometimes send, and sometimes not (failing with a general network connection error, when the PC has full internet).

We have an opportunity to move to a 64-bit 2008 print server. Would this eliminate our issues, or will we still have bugs. We're so fed up with how bad this printer is, but still under contract. Any ideas?

If you wait the requisite 2 hours, the hotline will tell you that the fax driver is intended as a local fax driver, not as a network share. It didn't seen to be a problem on 32 bit servers, but with the advent 64 bit servers the issue has come to the forefront.

I addressed this issue on an Alphard I. After reloading the driver in every configuration that I could think of, the only consistent results were from local installations on 32 bit clients. On the 64 bit server it worked for one fax, then went right to network connection errors. On 64 bit clients, it functioned for several consecutive days before ceasing to function.

If you'd like to downgrade to VoyagerE, the fax driver uses ScanFile Utility, which is an FTP connection, and seems to work fine.

I know that this is not what wanted to hear, but maybe it's better to know you've come up against the proverbial immovable object. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Hmm...So I can run LOCAL on my 64-bit windows 7 machines, but not network? And should we move to a 64-bit server and use voyager as a workaround, or stay with our 32-bit 2003 box?

      Thanks

Already connected a laptop to the machine?

It won't work as a network share. The best you can hope for is installing local directly to the printers IP. =^..^=
