    Re: DF 780 J 93 's

I've seen this jam code on two occasions. The first time it was caused by glossy, heavy paper ... too heavy per DF-780 finisher specs. All other paper fed fine.

The second time it was on a DF-730, which is a similar build. The flappers that pull the paper back in for stapling tray are specifically timed to miss the side registration guides. When the flappers turn too slowly, due to friction from the bronze oil impregnated bushings, the flappers either strike the side reg guide, or block the paper path because of late timing. I disassembled the mechanical drive, cleaned and oiled the bushings (just squirting oil around randomly doesn't fix anything). Don't make the same mistake I did: On the DF-730 the flappers are actuated by a solenoid. I had the bright idea to remove the sound damping pad. It took about a year for the actuator to magnetize, allowing the flappers to make a second rotation, also causing the same jamming. Either leave the sound damping pad there, or replace it with one that isn't made of foam, for example rubber or heavy adhesive backed mylar.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
