    latest KX Driver .1413 horror!

    Cust office ha s afleet of FS-4100 b/w printers... iwent to install/add another FS-4100.. W2K8server 64 bit / W7client 32bit...
for that new port/printer, i decided on the server to use the latest 1.1413 KX driver.. never checking to see what was already the current FS-4100 driver.. it was ver 6.0!
BANG! instant grief.. users saying i lost all my printers/i cant print anymore! i since learned its wrong to have more then 1 version of this driver per printer

cause i just didnt know what to do... i decided to start from scratch, uninstalled ALL 4100 printers from the server AND all the clients, had to walk to each one..
the KM_Uninstall didnt work, i used Windows "Print server properties" tab to uninstall.. which ssometimes failed too..
then loaded 1.1413 on server.. then walked to all clients and \\Server1 to browse to all 4100 printers to install... horrible day

what should i have done to upgrade the current install of 4100s on KX ver6.0.. and then add the new 4100? what is best practice?

Re: latest KX Driver .1413 horror!

If you had opened the 6.0 version of the driver, the driver would have identified the installed drivers, and offered to upgrade to the latest level. It will only do one driver installation at a time, but it's easy and thorough, and removes the unused driver components that screw up multiple versions of the driver. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      bc thx for the reply..
wait.. do you mean open the 6.1.1413 driver? meaning run the 6.1.1413 Installer? ( I have been using Windows Add Printer wizard as I want to avoid the Status Monitor/extras etc..)

is this best practice.. run the Kyocera KX driver Installer ?

      thx again!

I don't know if it's best practice ... but I've been doing it that way for a long time, with only a few hiccups. There was a 5.x.xxxx version of the driver that would hang up at around 32%, and sit there forever on Vista and Win8 OS. After tying up 4 PCs, I downgraded to an older version of the driver, and it installed just fine. That's what you get when you download the latest greatest driver the same day it's released.

I like the KX driver wizard. =^..^=

It is known that upgrading kx driver in server environment causes crashes. Check this bulletin: COM-026.pdf

Depending on the environment and how they've deployed the printers to everyone, after updating/changing a print driver on the server, each PC connected to the shared printer may have to do something.

Usually if they have their printers deployed using group policy, or if they have a script that runs every time they log on, each person may have to reboot or log off and back on, wait a few minutes, and the changes should be applied.

Sometimes the printers are just simply shared from the server. In this case, depending on the OS on each PC, you may have to go into devices and printers, right click on the printer, and there should be an "Update Driver" option, or something of that nature.

thank you for the replys, Kyofan for the SBulletin COM-026...

WOW...that bulletin states that a client (with some sort of admin priv. maybe part of AD Print Operator group ?) .. that its spooler will try to upgrade the driver on the print server! causing further driver mismatches across the whole network!

              how can that be?

could that user push an older driver to the server and "downgrade" it ?

In my experience the server will not auto update, but the clients may. On one occasion IT installed a bizhub C650 driver, for a bizhub C654. The driver on the server would not print, but when it was pushed out to the clients, most of the clients updated to the correct, most current driver. =^..^=
