    USB print and scan

I'm a little new to the Kyocera machines. In the operation guide for the 6551ci it says you must format the usb at the machine before using it to print or scan to. My question is will it still work without formatting at the machine?

It was never needed to format usb stick to scan to it or to print from it. That was only the case with older machines when you wanted to upgrade firmware from cf card - it had to be formatted 1st from the printer menu (cf card space size issues mostly). Newer models don't have cf slot anymore, instead they have sd card slots but you can only use it for additional functions like installing HyPAS apps there or using it as print storage etc. Even if you want to upgrade firmware on newer machines, you don't have to format usb stick, just create a folder and put all the files u got there in it, and than copy the firmware files on to the root.

        100% agree. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks everyone. Everything seems to be working ok on our recent install. I did notice a lot of confusion and errors in the operation manual though. Again thanks for your help.

What ? Confusion ? Welcome to the world of Kyocera . ( one of our techs showed us in the on-line training where they tell you that the descriptions in the Parts Manual and the Service Manual WILL have different descriptions of the same part )

When using USB Drives for the loading of Firmware , we have tested up to 8 Gb with no problems. We have not yet partitioned a larger drive and tested it using Combined FW .
Has anyone out there partitioned and tested the larger drives yet ?

I figure Kyocera has two different teams of technical writers that are not allowed to communicate. Yes I've noticed that too. =^..^=
