    TASKalfa 3501i / Olivetti 3500MFPLUS

    Hello

Hopefully a really simple issue, I normally work in the Canon forum.

Can the waste toner bottle on these models be emptied and reused? I have tried this and the machine will now not accept the waste toner, not bothered about buying a new one, just hate buying them, trying to do my bit for the environment

    Thanks

If the rubber diaphragm is intact, then yes. It's messy, but you can unscrew the lid off the bottle and carefully slide out the auger system. Now you can dump the container. The tricky part is getting the far end of the auger lined up with the feature in the opposite end of the opaque bottle. You won't be able to see what you are doing. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for the info, looking at the service manual there are 2 sensors regarding the waste toner.

Really odd, I just emptied it out of the input and tried putting it back in, is it measured in weight, or a light type of measurement?

There's a light sensor in the neck of the bottle, when you dump the waste out make sure you clear out the neck or it will still come up with the "empty waste toner" message. When the waste toner starts to get full the rubber bung contacts a switch above it and the "waste toner almost full" message appears.
