We have a customer with a 300ci that doesn't want to spend alot of money (a church)
This would be a better option so I'll run that by the bossman
Thanks guys
Edit: How easy, or not, is this to do?
If it's anything like a 3050ci, then yuck!
I tried that. No go.
Tried updating the firmware *again*, per Kyocera support and still get a C7401.
So they locked out the hard coding in the different chips now or??
I really despise this line. Nothing but problems - toner dots, streaking, smudging, blah blah blah!
Something's gotta give.
When you say you're still getting the code does this mean the original Dev (with original chip) gave C7401? If so when you've put the new dev unit in and used the original chip the code will transfer as the chip holds onto the code. So if the Unit codes it kills the chip.
I believe the chip holds the model, count and code of the original unit.

Yes, I put the original chip and DV back in and it produed the code again, after trying the other DV. It didn't before, obviously.
I saw another post here saying he tried the same thing I'm doing and got the same result code.
I read the bulletin from 02/11/2011 regarding C7xxx codes and I'm getting green in the face with worry about
maybe I broke something else during the swap. We've ordered a new DV and it should be here by next Tuesday.
Hope it fixes it.
I have had no problems at all swapping devs or drums from a 300ci to a 400ci. I personally think you may have your chips mixed up. As the service manual says: failure to detect dev unit and the solution is either to insert dev unit or replace with a correct unit, sort of says it all.
I hope u reach a resolve with this problem as i also know how much of a pain these machines can be.

Fingers crossed!
It was DV from 400ci to 300ci.
I marked the chips.
YMMV.
