Misfeeding on Falcons and 420i 520i. Questioning roller.

    Hello to all!

I have been hit with an unusual jamming problem on several machines lately and I want to see if others have noticed this too and perhaps what fixes you have tried.

Affected models include all Falcons and 420i 520i.

Paper will jam in the drawer but not leave the drawer. There will be a black roller mark where the pickup roller has tried to advance the paper, but it does not advance past the upper feed roller.

I think the needle bearings (one way) in the upper feed roller (2AR07220) are the culprit. It is obvious the pickup roller it turning due to the black mark on the misfed sheet but not advancing past that upper feed roller since it is not turning.

I feel the needle bearings are failing causing the roller not to turn when the feed shaft turns. Replacing the roller corrects the problem, but I am not getting much yield out of the rollers. It varies depending on use. I would gather not much more that 30k - 50k out of a roller.

I can rough up the shaft with emery paper and degrease it also to try to extend the time between failure but I am not sure it is helping.

Has anyone else seen something similar to this and could we have a manufacture problem with these rollers?

    I appreciate any comments.

Similar to some other manufacturers, Kyocera is making thinner and less yielding rubber pullies in all segments. I remember the rock solid FS-4020DN printer that could make 500k with factory pullies. Today's models like FS-4200DN, I feel good when it makes 100k without replacement. As far as i know all the Kyocera rubber pullies are made to last 150k max these days. The only good thing is that they are cheap.

You'll have better results if you don't rough up the shaft, it's supposed to be smooth. Also do not de-grease one-way bearings. They're supposed to have a light-weight oil like Tri-Flow. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

        Thanks for input.
I am just puzzled why only recently (past 10-12 months) this is becoming noticeable.
If it were one machine or perhaps just a few I would dismiss it. These have worked so well since the falcon one days that I am concerned a trend may be developing.
