Copystar 205c "Ticking" Noise while idle

Copystar 205c is making a "ticking" sound, much like a clock when idle. Any ideas? It has been in storage for a bit, not sure if that may have anything to do with it.

The noise is coming from the fuser unit. When idle the fuser unit still runs for a long time. I have managed to reduce the noise quite a bit by lubricating the internal parts. I say internal parts because its been a while since i worked and the machine, but that much i remembered. cheat the door and run the machine you should be able to hear the noise.

Thanks for the tip. This machine is under 40k page count, is that still normal for this machine?

Clicks have less to do with it than the storage time. Fusers will get flat spots on the pressure roller when they aren't rotating for a while. Sometimes those flat spots will round out by themselves just by running the machine. If it doesn't bother the enduser let it run that way. It will do no harm. If the ticking must go away, you'll probably have to change out that fuser, regardless of the number of clicks. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I had one making a clicking noise and it was a gear in the fuser drive pack that the collar was broken out.

Just replace the fuser and return it for warranty.

No. The fuser drive pack is in the back of the machine, not on the fuser unit. That is why I added my two cents, because we did waist time and money on replacing the fuser first, when we should have looked at the drive pack.

We have quite a number of these and only two or so had that ticking noise. I did this repair a long time ago, but distinctively remember swapping out the fuser and the noise was gone. i spent quite a bit of time tearing down that fuser, which is a bit tricky and lube trying to see where the noise came from. It reduced quite a bit , but was not gone completely. the machine only had about 20k. The noise though was annoying.

Others having this situation then can check the drivepack before replacing fuser as to confirm Tonerkiller findings.

Do what Tonerkiller says and check Bulletin E044-2NP-0005. They did make some changes in the fuser unit also but most of the time it's in the drive pack.IMAG2112.jpg

I did look at the bulletin and below is the subject title and solution. It did not mention about noise though, but looking at the cause and the required fix, this wear will cause noise to occur. what noise is only who is hearing it. As i said, i did replace the fuser unit and the noise in the machine i worked on went away. This machine i worked on is an order from our shop that i had to prepare and i definitely would not send a machine out with that noise.

But thank you for this post as i was not aware of this bulletin before and next machine would look at the drive unit to see this myself. I can see if the spring is not flat on the end, the gear can rub on the end tip of the spring at each revolution of the gear and cause the ticking noise. But if the spring is flat at the end, then it shoud make a rubbing noise.

Pleas note the additional models the bulletin applies to also.

The original poster should post his fix and let us know how he solved it though.
