OKI MPS5502 Toner Add issue

OK not much OKI experience here.....

Machine does not recognise adding a toner cartridge. The cartridge has a chip on bottom that contacts
corresponding "chip reader" on drum unit.

I have cleaned all contacts, ensured proper seating of units and ensured the toner cart. is locked in place.

Is this a common issue on this model?

Any tips, hints or guidance greatly appreciated.

Service manual states.......

Confirm that the toner sensor works normally by
using the SWITCH SCAN function of the selfdiagnostic
mode.
Place a white paper in front of the toner sensor,
and check if the SCAN state changes or not

Where oh where is this toner sensor? All I see is two contact points on toner and two on imaging unit??????

Its either the drum or toner cartridge.I have had a few calls like this.

If you remove the toner cart, look on the left hand side there is a brass contact. It should have 2 tabs, are they broken or misshaped? If you remove the drum and toner together there are 2 of the sensors.

If you remove the toner cart, look on the left hand side there is a brass contact. It should have 2 tabs, are they broken or misshaped? If you remove the drum and toner together there are 2 of the sensors.

That should be the right side, sorry.
