    Trade Tricks 2016

Re. Time saving tricks of the trade:

For those of us who are more often then not strapped to find enough time in their busy day.

Where practical, I've snipped and filed clean slots in machine plastic back covers to
allow the rear or side covers to slide off quick with minimum screws undone.

I've left screws out of machine covers if returning the next day with parts.

I've cut off those extremely annoying overlap cover tabs that prevent side covers from
being remove separately before the rear cover. eg ricoh SFC 232SF fuser side covers.

I've filed longer slots in photo-interrupter metal base mounts to get more movement
which corrects a fault in some bent ADF covers.

How to use a simple cable-tie to stop customers from plugging in (oops! wrong lead) the machine while it's down for parts. (See image)

    cabletie_plug.JPG

Or you might like to make a secure lockout plate which makes it illegal for any other person to remove the lock and safety tag.(See below image)

    .
    .
    .
Plus ship-load more time-saver short cuts I can't think of right now...

This is a generic post for all manufacturer makes and models of machines.

Bought these two years ago and absolutely like them. two sizes for 30.00 and its worth every penny. Techs would find this very usefull for general use and even around the house. I three types of these by different manufactures. saves a lot of time and is instant. i will post pics later on.

Make your own Roller Press tool to remove the inner plastic hub away from the outer rubber feed roller.

            Re: New Visegrip tool.
I had a look at the visegrip video. I noticed straight away that there's a long tension spring inside the handle that proves the locking force. The spring is the reason the new designed vise-gripe device can shift to a different diameter without any further adjustments. I've personally used some serious force using the old style vicegrips to remove stubborn bolts and studs. I feel the new device would be okay for general home use, but I'd hesitate to use it anywhere safely with a serious load under pressure.

            Novel new approach though....

Yeh, i agree with the above statement only to the point when i have not put it under strenuous force. But it is awesome for most of the task that we do everyday and what i really like about it, is it adjust from very tiny size to the allowable jaw opening size. If i lost this today, i will have to get one tommorow. So i now have three pairs of these. a cobalt brand i got for 10, a husky and the home hardware. the cobalt one suck though.

Here are the husky ones. These grip very strong. The only drawback to this one is you have to operate it with both hands as the handles open wide. Locking power is strong though. These have just been sitting somewhere and has use them very little.

Corrupt spooler print queue files appear to be an on going issue, so I've put together a simple Batch file to reset the Spooler Print directory, and clean out all the pending corrupt files.

The batch file shows date, time, owner and file name of all files stored in the Spooler Directory before stopping the spooler, deleting all files, and then restarting the spooler.

Cut and paste the complete batch file from the following post, or
send me a PM an I will email the text file to you.

Re: Alcohol and other Cleaning fluid.
I generally carry 2 or 3 flip top bottles that contain , alcohol, water an ammonia based cleaner for covers. The flip top makes it quick an easy to dispense a few drops here and there on most surfaces. The slimline bottles don't leak through your tool bag so they work well for most situations.

Obviously you'll need to carry a larger supply bottle in your vehicle and decant to refill the smaller bottles.
