Is it safe to insert a card board into a drum?

    Hi,

I am just wondering if it's safe to insert a cardboard into a drum like in this video Printer too noisy: what to do - YouTube at 2:38.
isnt it that drum will get hot? it wont burn the cardboard inside?

No, the drum does not get hot from charging. I think what they're talking about in the video is the ringing sound that you can sometimes get between the drum cleaning blade and the drum. It was a serious issue on the Mita DC213RE and other machines of that family. Those drum blades were mounted with a shoulder screw so they could swivel to follow the drum surface. It was discovered later that the blades don't really need to swivel to follow the drum. Most of us techs carries a couple dozen 0.2mm thick plastic shims to place between the head of the shoulder screw and the blade to take up some of that looseness. It needs to be moveable but not loose.

Other possible complications to the cardboard trick are the drum shaft itself on many machines passes completely through the drum, and the cardboard would be an obstruction. The cardboard itself might loosen up, making it's own tumbling sound. And the drum caps often do not come off so easily.

Many Canon drums have a tube or plug of thick rubber inserted, and it works. I recycled quite a lot of Canon drums, and removed quite a lot of these rubber dampers. Do you want some? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Most of the video is in reference to an HP disposible toner cartridge. Unless you're gonna be rebuilding toner cartridges, I'd forget that video.
