PANASONIC HAS A BUNCH OF QUANTUM SETTINGS IN F5 AND F6 MODES
BUT I DON'T KNOW IF I SHOULD BE MESSING WITH THOSE..

Did you check the pins on the TDC sensor to make sure that they're all in place? And did you make sure that the spring inside the toner hopper that keeps the motor from spinning too much is in place still also?

Both of these situations have happened to me this year. The pins in the TDC sensor was easy. But the toner hopper one was kinda difficult. Make sure that if you go to take apart the hopper you be very careful because there is a series of springs inside that keep the motor from constantly spinning when the subhopper is full. Inside the subhopper there is a spring that allows it to spin and deliver toner into the developer unit. Make sure that spring inside the subhopper is still in place because no toner will be delivered to the dev unit if it isn't. Also can you go into F4-52 I think it is (I dont have my toronto in front of me) and manually spin the reverse motor for the toner bottle? If you can do that and refill the dev unit with toner then its definately a sensor issue. Hope this helps.

      hi tom,
i checked the toner hopper and it turns both ways and the copier does tone up when you push the manual add toner feature in the user codes.

not sure what you are saying about the "pins" on the TDC sensor, isn't that perminetly mounted on the drum unit..?

      thanks ,

      joe

The pins I'm talking about are the little pins that plug into the black harness that you plug into the machine from the developer wires. If you pull on the dev wires a little too hard you can actually loosen them up so they won't make a connection. Its happened to me before and I didn't catch it for about 3 months because I kept going out and manually adding toner, checked the hopper and almost lost my mind untill I saw that 1 pin was out of place on that harness. Also the bottom of the dev unit where the TDC sensor is, check that the wires aren't being pinched by the plate that covers them. That will cause the issue your having also. If all else fails I reccomend changing out the TDC sensor for a month to see if it was the sensor itself.

so let me ask you this , if the tds sensor is located on the bottom of the dv unit, then what's the sensor in the drum unit...?
and does it also control the density...
how do i know when to replace the whole dv unit..
panasonic says it's good for up to 400 k...?
what are the symtoms when its going out...

There are 2 toner density sensor. The one on the dev unit is to sense the toner mixture. The one on the drum unit is to sense the toner density on the drum itself.

The dev unit doesnt really need to replace, they last longer than that. The only thing u might need to change is the mag roller.... if it get de-magnetized, it cant attract enough toner to put on the drum. I believe the mag-roller is about the same price as the whole dev unit itself (around 10~20bucks).
